The American military base in Heidelberg ensures that no U.S. holiday goes unnoticed. With that being said, they put on a big "fest-style" 4th of July party complete with amusement park rides and games for the kids and lots of beer and wurst for the adults. Lots of German vendors were on hand to contribute to the festivities. There was even a big firework show at the end. In addition, Greg's boss who lives on the base, hosted a party at his house. It was just like being back in the good 'ole USA. We brought along Silke and her two kids so that they could experience a little bit of American culture. Everyone seemed to have a great time!
Silke's daughter, Sarah (in while hat and white t-shirt), participates in a human fooseball table game.
Taryn runs into one of her BFFs, Maddie.
Round and round they go! Whoo hooo!
Sarah (age 11) took on an adult competitor in some sumo wrestling. I think Sarah won!
Of course, we had to hit the rides!
More than once!
And play some games! Of course, there is a lot of time to kill when the fireworks don't go off until 10:45! This pic was taken at almost 10:00pm. I still can't get used to it!
Leena takes in the fireworks (we were very close and they were loud!). A little glimpse of the show is in the video below.
